Design Philosophy

At Polyfusion Audio, we believe that one important element of good product design is long life expectancy. Simply stated, the longer our products provide the highest level of performance, the better value to the end user.

There are no compromises, no shortcuts, and no "good enough" philosophies allowed in our product design. Conversely, we do not employ any gimmicks or "buzz-word" components which are frequently included for their perceived value, but in fact contribute nothing to performance, only to cost.

The level of performance achieved demands that only the most sensitive instruments available be used for evaluation... your ears!

The Polyfusion Audio philosophy is to provide you with the finest performance, combined with solid physical design. Our equipment represents a blend of electronic technology guided by critical listening, and an adherence to the highest quality control standards in the industry.

Tubes Vs Solid State

Although we recognize the value and sonic qualities of some of the finest tube designs, we are convinced that competent solid state designs can equal or surpass the tube type counterpart in every regard—without the flaws and shortcomings associated with tubes.

Unlike solid state devices, tubes "age" and weaken. Tubes are also prone to microphonics, which are sneak paths through which a variety of distortion can be introduced. Certainly of sufficient concern is the amount of space required, heat produced, and the energy wasted by tubes. As tubes age, their performance declines steadily. How does the audiophile know when to replace them? And let us not overlook the cost of their replacement.

It is for these reasons that we have elected not to use tubes, but direct our engineering efforts toward designing solid state circuitry which has the "warm" sonic quality of tubes but none of the negative aspects.

Design Examples / Quality Criteria

• We believe that the primary function of audio equipment is the faithful reproduction of music, not to impress consumers with a "glitzy look." We have designed our units to be both attractive and functional with a conservative, timeless appearance.
• All units are hand crafted: For example, the 24 power MOS-FETs used in the Model 960 power amplifier are hand selected for a perfect match in performance, to ensure balanced load sharing and ultra-low distortion.
• Our unique modular construction in the amplifier series is an example of the logical design philosophy which we operate under. This design allows for immediate access should a channel need service or replacement.
• Polyfusion is an ISO 9000 qualified company and offers a full three-year limited warranty on all products. Every unit, prior to leaving the factory, has in excess of 150 hours of "burn-in" time.
• A major customer of the Polyfusion Electronics contract manufacturing division now rates Polyfusion work in "parts per million," with the current rejection rate at about 30 "parts per million" (.003%). This explains why our design and build quality is routinely compared to products built to NASA specifications.
• This is quality control that an ISO 9000 company, working in the demanding field of robotics and other high-tech industries, is accustomed to. This level of attention to detail results in audio components that are unsurpassed in performance and value.
